George E. Smith, einer der Miterfinder des CCD-Sensors, ist am 28. Mai in seinem Haus in Waretown, New Jersey, verstorben. Dr. Smith war 1969 Forscher in den Bell Labs, als er und sein Kollege Willard S. Boyle eine Idee auf einer Tafel skizzierten, die schließlich zum ersten digitalen Bildsensor werden sollte.
